Police Officers
Credit Union Association
A vision of collaboration and mutual support to organizations serving law-enforcement families and other first responders.
About Us
The idea of an association began as a conversation during a lunch between Ken Bator, the owner of Bator Training & Consulting, and Scott Arney, the CEO of Chicago Patrolmen's FCU, in the fall of 2003. While the restaurant is no longer there and the credit union has grown to become the National Police FCU, one of the most respected service providers to first responders throughout the United States, the concept still exists. That idea is simple: to provide a forum whereby businesses that serve law-enforcement families can collaborate, grow, and thrive together.
This idea gave birth to the first Police Officers' Credit Union Conference in 2004. This initial summit drew approximately 25 executives from 10 organizations serving police officers throughout the country. By 2008, this event grew to over 100 attendees from over 25 businesses.
While the idea of the association had gained support, the worst economic conditions since the Great Depression in 2009 didn't allow us to grow. The turnout for our events from 2009 to 2011 diminished greatly but we persevered. Even though Bator Training & Consulting (BTC) as the parent company had to endure losses during the Great Recession the collaborative efforts continued.
The decade of 2010 to 2020 showed slow but steady growth and the Police Officers' Credit Union Association (POCUA) was born. As events such as the one in Ferguson, MO in 2014 birthed an insidious anti-law-enforcement sentiment among some individuals and politicians in our country, BTC has preached the critical nature of the association in embracing the "PO" as much more important than the "CU" in the POCUA.
Today, while the COVID-19 pandemic certainly has taken a similar toll on the association as did the Great Recession, BTC sees a tremendous opportunity to bring businesses of multiple types that serve law-enforcement families together. Our objective of providing a forum for networking and collaboration remains along with the following:
-
To provide a clear and consistent voice in support of law enforcement throughout the country
-
To actively drive more business to all POCUA members and business partners
